Originally from Australia’s North West, Duane began his apprenticeship in 2007 and has developed his skills across a number of outlets in the Complex.
The opportunity to work in the Commis section of (A)LURE has been a career highlight for Duane who can name Sean Marco, Western Australia’s 2010 Chef of the Year, as a mentor.
Burswood CEO Barry Felstead credits Duane’s success to his hard work and passion.
“This is a great achievement for Duane and we are pleased that the Aboriginal Employment Program could provide him with this opportunity to develop.
“With his skill and determination I have no doubt that Duane will succeed in the fast-paced hospitality industry.”
In a nationally led initiative, Burswood Entertainment Complex and Crown Melbourne have partnered with the Australian Employment Covenant and the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations to provide sustainable employment opportunities to Indigenous Australians.
Burswood’s Aboriginal Employment program currently employs 32 staff in roles across the Complex including food and beverage, security, gaming, human resources, occupational health and safety and hotel operations.
